I adore being a mama. It truly completes me.
But…yep, let me insert the “BUT”…it wasn’t so easy in the beginning, believe me, there were tears, lots of tears, sleepless nights, cluelessness, the sadness-to-happiness quick-switch…
Heck, it’s still not easy & I don’t think it ever will be – I don’t think it’s SUPPOSED TO BE.
It’s hard, it really is, I’m not gonna lie.
Whether you have one kid or twenty.
There are some days a lot of days when you feel like a failure…there are piles of laundry everywhere, you have to eat out YET AGAIN because you forgot about dinner (or lunch), the dishwasher isn’t emptied, the kids are fighting, you haven’t washed your hair in who knows how long, and you are wearing sweats yet again.
Have you ever noticed that none of your friends are Instagram-ing or Facebook-ing pictures of their laundry piles, their hot-mess-of-a-house, or pics of themselves in their sweats?!
No?!
Well, breaking news, you’re only seeing a highlight reel of their best moments.
If we’re so hard on ourselves, and then we add to the mix influences like social media, magazines, and celebrities, well by golly, no wonder we always feel like we are failing!
But we are not failing.
You are not failing.
I promise – cross my heart.
We all struggle.
We all have tough times.
We are all the same – we are all mothers – mothers TOGETHER.
When I get caught up in the hysteria that is my own bubble of insecurities, I stop, take a deep breath, and adjust my perspective.
It’s all about perspective, right?!
So, c’mon, are you really failing as a mom?
Nope.
But, is today so incredibly hard you want to scream at the top of your lungs?
Yep.
Do you need a break? Probably.
Enter: a temporary solution. This is the moment to sit your kids in front of the ol’ television (shudder), step outside for a moment (they will be okay), and just breathe – breathe, and remember you are not alone and it will be okay. We will all be okay. You are not failing. You are your kid’s one & only mama. Remember lives are not highlight reels. The mama who always makes beautiful cookies is not perfect to them, the mama who does amazing crafts every day is not perfect to them, and the mama with an immaculate home is not perfect to them.
YOU are perfect to them – their one & only mama.
So remember that. And remember to just breathe. xx
Happy Mother’s Day!
And, of course I made it a printable for you – how could I not ;)

Thank you for this reminder — it is so easy to find yourself comparing yourself to everyone’s good moments and forget we are all human and have those days.
Happy Mother’s Day!
