Well, it CAN get better than CHOCOLATE Playdough, introducing Cotton Candy Playdough!

I {LOVE} making playdough!  And V {LOVES} to see what I come up with – “make pay-dough mama” :):):)

I used the same cotton candy liquid flavoring I used in the Cotton Candy Cake Cookies to make this playdough.

It’s super pretty & looks just like cotton candy, especially when you swirl the blue & pink together!





And it smells sooo good, too, good enough to eat!  But don’t eat it – ewww – and make sure if you decide to do this recipe your kiddos are old enough to understand that this is a toy, not food.  It may be confusing to them if they are too little (because I’ll tell you now, it’s nothing like store-bought playdough, and can easily be confusing to the young lads because of the smell & texture :)

COTTON CANDY PLAYDOUGH

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together the flour, salt, & cream of tartar.
  2. Blend water & food coloring in separate bowl.
  3. Add colored water mixture to dry mixture and whisk until smooth and blended.
  4. Add scented flavoring.
  5. Place saucepan over low heat and stir continuously until it forms a ball – about 7 minutes (it will be impossible to stir).
  6. Remove dough from saucepan onto a mat and knead it several times while warm.
  7. Play immediately with dough or store in a sealed container for later play.
  8. Although it may be tempting – DO NOT EAT PLAYDOUGH ;)
  9. Seriously – y’all don’t eat the playdough! :)

Oh & if you have tried any of my playdough recipes in the past (chocolate playdough & kool-aid playdough), this recipe is different, just a tad.  I experimented a little.  The composition is a little more textured than the other two, but I like them both :)

    I’m wondering about how long this would last, before, if, it became rotton/too sticky to play with? Reason I’m asking is because I was hoping to include some homemade play dough as favors at my daughter’s birthday party. I didn’t know if it was best if I made this the night before, and if I had to advise people to keep it in the fridge?

      Hi Katie!
      It lasts longer when it is stored in a sealed container. Typically my homemade playdough, last approximately 2 months if stored tightly in a sealed container immediately after play. It is not necessary at all to refrigerate it. If it’s let set out it hardens just like regular store bought playdough. What I always do for parties when playdough is included, is like you said, make it the night before (the freshest always feels & smells the best). I would then separate the batch into the favor portions for each kid & then store it their own small GladWare container like these (http://amzn.to/1dotnjh). They usually come in multiple packs & are sold at Walmart & Target. You can wrap them up with ribbon or even have your daughter help you decorate them with Washi Tape too.     Wowsa! Playdough is my favorite! As a Child & Adolescent Therapist, I get to be around it almost every day! I love new recipes for creative doughs and this is the FIRST of this kind I’ve seen! I love it! SWOONING!

    The cotton candy flavoring must smell really good. It looks pretty too. I will have to try this recipe when they are old enough to know that not everything that smells good enough to eat should be eaten. Thank you for sharing on Artsy Play Wednesday on Capri + 3.

    Amazing! It really does look like cotton candy, especially the mixed variety. What a fun play thing. I’ll be trying homemade playdough with my daughter in a few weeks and will definitely keep your recipe in mind.
