I love doing Virtual Book Club for Kids every month. If not for adding content (because blog posts are few & far between these days ha-ha), it pulls me out of my comfort zone to create an original idea from a book, each and every month!
This month, for March, we are celebrating Beatrix Potter and The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

So, truth be told, these look like they may be a little complicated, huh?!
Well, they are not – I’m soooooo not a complicated craftin’ gal. These can be made by you (mama) or an older child, think 6 (that’s how old V is). V made several of these with me after I perfected the technique. They are adorable little bunny holders to carry your blackberry treats – DIY Bunny Treat Bags!!
In The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who were good little bunnies, they went down the lane to gather blackberries while Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight away to Mr. McGregor’s garden to eat some radishes and green beans.
So, I made these little DIY Bunny Treat Bags with Blackberries just for Peter, since he never got to have any.
How cute would these be for a little story time with friends?! Read the story while they have a little treat :)

DIY Bunny Treat Bags
Supplies:
- Small Kraft Bag
- Scissors
- Pink & Black Marker, I used these
- Glue Stick
- (Optional) Patterned Paper
- (Optional) Heart Punch
- Thin Twine
- Thick Jute Twine
- Pretzel Bag
- Blackberry candies
- White 1/2” pom-pom
Make it:
- Start by cutting the bunny ears in the paper bags. To make them symmetrical, fold the top of the bag in half to cut both ears at the same time.
- (Optional) Using this fun navy dot paper (which reminded me of the little blackberries in the story :), we punched asymmetrical hearts out and attached them with a little glue stick love. They added a little pop of color to Peter’s ears (that wasn’t pink).

Draw on your little bunny face with the pink & black markers. We opted for super simple with just Peter’s nose & smile.

So, I tested out this many ways before I had V join me to figure out the best way for this to work, this way (many paper bags later) ended up with the best results. Snip little holes all around the bag. Start in the front a little below the middle, where the bunny ears come together. Don’t snip too close to the top or it will tear, and don’t snip too close to the bunny nose you drew or it will disappear in the bag gathering. Ours was about 1” up from Peter’s nose and about a 1/2” from the top.

Snip that middle spot first, then two more snips on the front. Snip two holes on each of the sides, and two holes in the back (see details in first 4 frames below).

Start weaving the thin twine in, going into the hole from the front middle hole. In and out until you come back around to the front.

Fill a pretzel bag with your blackberry candies (not to exceed your bag space). Tie bag with the thick jute and then trim the pretzel bag. Place bag of candies into your paper bunny bag.

Cross the twine in the front and then wrap it around to the back to gather. Pull, adjust, pull adjust, then snip the ends. Leave enough space at the top to stick your finger in, to fluff the front and back out.

Using your glue stick, attach a little white fluffy bunny tail onto the back of the bag.
