So why home-school? I could give you a thousand reasons. But is that what you want? A thousand reasons why it’s perfect for OUR family. What about what’s perfect for YOUR family? Is home-schooling perfect for your family?
I never thought I’d be a stay-at-home-mom. Really, does anyone think that that’s what they’ll do when they grow up? Don’t get me wrong, just because I never thought I’d do it doesn’t mean I don’t love it, and I’m completely and utterly grateful that I have the ability to stay home with my kiddos. I am completely blessed.
And typical me, I couldn’t JUST embrace being a SAHM, I had to add a thousand-billion things to my plate which now makes me a work-from-home-mom. With my photography business, actively maintaining my blog (with posts, and campaigns, and social media –it’s a 10 person job!), my online store, consignment season, and a part-time volunteer job…oh and let’s not forget all the other “mom” stuff…shuttle bus driver, meal planner, meal maker, laundry facilitator, house cleaner, toy picker-upper, grocery shopper, appointment caller, boo-boo fixer…okay I could go on & on with this list lol :)
And…now home-schooling!
Some days I feel like my head is spinning & I just can’t reel it all in…all the things I have to do!
But then I stop. And breathe.
Homeschooling is our decision, our family’s decision. It may not be perfect, or ideal, or even an option for other families, but it is what is working for us, right now. I’m not trying to walk around saying I’m an expert in anything, because I’m so not. Well, unless you are talking about kids’ consignment – haha THAT I can say I am an expert in ;) But home-schooling – soooo not an expert! I am taking it one day at a time here.
I love being home with the kids. Not everyday though, I am human, not superhuman – some days I just want to scream and hide in a closet and eat a big cookie all.by.myself. Not with someone banging on the door “mommy” wanting me to “share” my cookie with them. I want a cookie all to myself.
So I tend to rattle off on tangents a lot…but the point of this is not to tell you why homeschooling is right for us, the points, the options, the facts. The point is to tell you that it is our decision. A decision that we believe in. A decision that works for our family. A decision between the four of us; me, hubs, V&T. A decision I ask you to respect.
You can say that the so-called “mommy wars” are a bunch of baloney, but you’d be incorrect. Everyday we judge each other on our decisions. Our decisions to formula feed, our decision to breast feed, our decision to breast feed our two year old, our decision to work outside of the home, our decision to work inside the home, our decision to stay at home and not work, our decision to send our kids to preschool, our decision to send our kids to public school, our decisions to send our kids to private school, our decision to homeschool. Do you see what the main component of all that is?! Decision….by definition, a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration. If you want to formula feed – wahoo – that’s awesome! I breast fed – and that’s awesome for me too! If you want to go back to work – wahooo – you rock, you seriously rock, yay you! I stay at home – so awesome for me too! What works for one family may not work for another family, whether it is means, or choices or whatever – it’s their decision.
I wish.
I wish that we supported each other for whatever our decisions were.
I wish.
I wish that we valued each other, for doing the best for our family.
I wish.
I wish that we could just support each other instead of tearing each other down.
I wish.
I wish that I could hug every mom out there and tell you what a fantastic job you are doing.

Thanks for sharing your honest experiences! No job is ever perfect, and just because you have “bad” days doesn’t mean you’ve made a bad decision. Kudos to you for realizing that!
