Who’s ready for Halloween?! WE ARE!!! WE ARE!!! Well, V&T are ;)
V & T already have their costumes picked out & have tried them on for anyone & everyone entering our house (awkward UPS guy moment ;). They are so excited to get the Halloween partying started!!! I’m sure when the trick-or-treating night is upon us, I’ll be posting all kinds of cutie pie pictures on Instagram, but until then I’ll (shhhhh) tell you their costume choices (ha-ha well, that is unless they happen to change their minds in the next 31 days – which could happen – these two LOOOOVE dress up!)
Little T is a sweet little turtle (so cute I want to eat him up!) with a little shell & tail peeking out. And, Miss V is a fairy (she was Tinkerbell last year – this girl love’s her fairy’s!), a purple fairy with little purple fairy wings & a purple fairy wand :)
To kick off the festivities in our house (albeit a month early), we dove into some books, crafts, & activities (our favorite things to do!!).
One of their favorite books from the HUMONGOUS pile of Halloween books we picked out at the library was Sheep Trick or Treat by Nancy Shaw. We already have a ton of her (Nancy Shaw’s) non-Halloween books – Sheep in a Shop, Sheep in a Jeep, Sheep Take a Hike, Sheep on a Ship, Sheep Out to Eat, and Sheep Blast Off!, so it only seemed fitting we grabbed another one from the series!!
Annnnd we made a super easy little sheep craft, a fun little treat to go with it (perfect for a school Halloween party!!), and a little rhyming activity to add to the learning fun!
Let’s get started!!
Be sure to start off with reading the book Sheep Trick or Treat by Nancy Shaw.
Now let’s get to crafting, snacking, & rhyming, shall we?!

CRAFT
What you’ll need for the painted craft:
-
the printable I made for ya here
-
paper plate (for paint)
-
2 medium sized self stick googly eyes
-
scissors
-
double stick tape
How to make the painted craft:
- Print out the template body & head on brown cardstock.
- Pour the paint onto the paper plate.
- Using the circle foam brush, stamp white circles on the sheep frame (we went a little over the line on purpose to make the little sheep more realistic :), do the same for the top of the sheep head too (see details pic below).
- Cut out the sheep body shape and head shape.
- Add 2 medium googly eyes to your sheep.
- Let dry. Once dry attach the head & body together with double stick tape.
- Draw a mouth with a fine tip black marker.
- Say “baa”.
SNACK
What you’ll need for the marshmallow snack:
-
the printable I made for ya here
-
2 medium sized self stick googly eyes
-
scissors
-
double stick tape
How to make the marshmallow snack:
- Print out the template leg insert & head on brown cardstock.
- Cut out the sheep leg insert and head shape.
- Fill bag with mini marshmallows about half way filling the round part fully (see details pic above).
- Insert leg insert into the remainder section of the bag (see details pic above).
- Add double stick tape on top of leg section on the outside of the bag (see details pic above).
- Fold over bag to stick sides together.
- Add sheep head to the outside of bag on top of the marshmallow section.
- Add 2 medium googly eyes to your sheep.
- Draw a mouth with a fine tip black marker.
- Say “baa”.
ACTIVITY
What you’ll need for the rhyming flash cards:
-
the printable I made for ya here
-
scissors
How to make the rhyming flash cards:
- Print out the templates on white cardstock.
- Laminate for extra playing strength.
- Cut out flash cards
The flash cards are a great extension activity from the book, they can be used for guided, or independent, rhyming practice and sorting. They can also be used for tracing the letters & words once laminated.

Such fun learning! I love it! The children have to be engaged prior to learning, and these activities guarantee they will remember these lessons! The sheep could also be a Halloween activity and treat at a party. You even included reading, thanks so much!
